The following morning Sandra jumped up in bed to the sound of a large Cockerill perched on the end of the bed, squawking at the top of his voice.
“COCK A DOODLE DOOO, - COCK A DOODLE DOO”.
Santa jumped up also, “oo, ah, what”.
“Where did that come from”, shouted Sandra, the doors closed”.
Santa sat up looking at the Cockerill, who was busy fluffing up his feathers.
“Ahh, well you said last night you wanted an early morning call, so you could watch the sun rise, well it was supposed to be some songbirds chirping the dawn chorus”, said Santa, pointing to the large noisy bird still perched on the end of the bed.
“Well do something, get rid of it before it wakes everybody in the hotel”, insisted Sandra.
Then with a” PUFF” the Cockerill disappeared, only to be replaced by a Vulture, “PUFF” a Monkey, “PUFF” then finally a Parrot, who sat quietly on the end of the bed looking at Sandra.
Review:
This book is a delightful mix of holiday spirit and comic misadventure. From the moment Santa and Sandra try to blend in like regular tourists, it’s clear things won’t go as planned. What follows is a sunshine getaway filled with unexpected twists, sabotaged hotel rivalries, and Santa somehow right in the middle of it all—while insisting he’s just a bystander.
The charm lies in the contrast between Sandra’s longing for peace and Santa’s knack for chaos. Glyn Davies keeps the pace quick and the humor light, making the story a smooth and enjoyable read. The hotel drama adds just enough tension to keep things interesting without taking away from the fun.
It’s the kind of story that doesn’t take itself too seriously and yet still manages to keep readers hooked with its warm characters and quirky plot. If you’re in the mood for something festive but different, this book makes for a cheerful escape.
